CW3 DesRoches was born in California on 29 October, 1951, and graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1969. CW3 DesRoches joined the Army in 1984, becoming a UH-1 pilot. His assignments included: Fort Carson, Colorado; El Gora, Egypt; and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. CW3 Desroches served as an Aviation Maintenance Officer and Instructor Pilot.
CW3 Desroches joined the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) in 1991 where he rose to serving as an Instructor Pilot in A Company, 2nd Battalion. He participated in numerous deployments both in the continental United States and overseas.
He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal on 7 March, 1996. His numerous other awards include: the Army Commendation Medal (second award), the Joint Service Achievement Medal (second award), the Army Achievement Medal (second award), the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Senior Aviator Badge.
He was married to the former Lisa Zandanel and had four children, Carla, Roger, Christopher, and Dena.
CW3 Desroches service to his nation tragically ended with his untimely death during an MH-47E Chinook, #465, flight on 7 March, 1996, near Russellville, Kentucky.
