Staff Sergeant Daniel L. Kisling
20 February 1971 - 30 January 2003

 

Staff Sergeant Daniel Leon Kisling was born in Neosho, Missouri on February 20, 1971.  He entered military service in June of 1992 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.  SSG Kisling received training as a 52D Power Generator Equipment Mechanic in the Army Reserves.  In June of 1993, SSG Kisling entered active duty and attended Advanced Individual Training as a 67T Tactical Transport Helicopter Mechanic at Fort Eustis, Virginia.  SSG Kisling also attended Airborne School, the Army Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape Course, Department of Defense High Risk Survival Course, Close Quarters Combat Instructor Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course and Primary Leadership Development Course.

In October 1993, Staff Sergeant Kisling was assigned to B Company, 2d Battalion, 82nd Aviation Regiment at Fort Bragg where he served as a UH-60L Blackhawk crewchief.  In December of 1998 he was assessed and selected for the Army’s elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) and assigned to F Company, 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR(A).  On September 1, 1999, SSG Kisling was reassigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR(A).  While assigned to D Company, SSG Kisling deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and on numerous training exercises in support of special operations forces.   SSG Kisling served as an MH-60L Blackhawk DAP and Assault Fully Mission Qualified crewchief and flew over 1,450 total flight hours.  As a Nightstalker and Hooter Brother, he tirelessly and vigorously accomplished all his duties in a professional manner.

SSG Kisling’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with numeral 2, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with 3 clasps, Joint Meritorious Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with a numeral 2, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Aircraft Crewman Badge and Parachutist Badge. 

SSG Kisling is survived by his wife; the former Georgie McNeill of Neosho, Missouri, his daughter, Jessica, two sons Nathan and Riley and his parents, Velinda and Daniel Kisling.
