SGT Zizelman was born in Celina, Ohio on 19 February, 1957, the son of Louis and Mary Clay Zizelman, Jr. SGT Zizelman graduated from Celina High School (Bulldogs) in 1975 where he was a wrestler. He entered the Army the same year.
SGT Zizelman went to basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany from 1976 – 1978. SGT Zizelman re-enlisted and went to Fort Rucker, Alabama for training as a Huey mechanic. He was later stationed at Fort Campbell, whereas he went back to school in March, 1980 to become a Blackhawk mechanic. SGT Zizelman loved the Army and loved to fly.
SGT Zizelman was killed during a training flight that crashed outside of Fort Stewart, Georgia. He served as a crewchief in C Company, 158th Aviation Battalion. It was the first Fort Campbell Blackhawk to crash.
He was married to Sabine Zizelman and had two sons, Ricky Jr., and Bobby.
