Major Robert P. Mallory
3 November 1955 - 22 February 1993


MAJ Mallory was born on 3 November, 1955 in the Federal Republic of Germany.  He entered the Army upon graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1978.  He was commissioned as a Quartermaster officer, then becoming an aviator after graduating from the rotary wing aviator school at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1983.  He received his Master’s of Science degree from the University of Southern California in 1984 and graduated from Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1992.


MAJ Mallory’s assignments include the 4th Supply and Transportation Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado, Headquarters, United States Army Field Station, Okinawa and  the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations and Plans, Pentagon.  While at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he served in the 101st Aviation Group and the 229th Attack Battalion.


He came to the 160th in 1985, serving as the Assistant Group S-4, the Group’s Headquarters and Service Company Commander the Regiment S4, flew Little Birds, and was remembered as very articulate.


His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.  He has earned the Army Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.


He was killed when his MH-6 crashed in Ohio.


He was married to Patricia Mallory and had three children, Robert, Lauren, and Ni
cholas.
