CW3 Monty was born in Albany, New York on 2 October, 1960. He graduated from Maple Hill High School in 1978, joined the Army in 1985, and became an Army Aviator in 1988. After serving two years at Fort Hood, Texas, he deployed to Southwest Asia with D Troop, 1-7th Air Cavalry and participated in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Returning to Fort Hood, CW3 Monty attended the Aviation Safety Officer’s Course followed by three years of service at the Army’s premier warfighting center, the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California. CW3 Monty was selected to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996. He joined the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) in March, 1996.
On 7 March, 1996, he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Three and awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (second award). His numerous other awards include: the Air Medal (second award), the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Senior Aviator Badge.
CW3 Monty’s service to his nation tragically ended with his untimely death during a MH-47E, #465, flight on 7 March, 1996, near Russellville, Kentucky.
He was married to the former Katherine Delisle and had two children, Samantha and William, III.I
