CW3 Hansen was born in Highland Park, Illinois on 28 November, 1947. He entered the Army in October 1967 from Fort Madison, Iowa. After completion of training as a Special Forces medical specialist, he was briefly assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Devens, Massachusetts before serving on an A-team in the Republic of Vietnam from 1969-1970. Upon his return, he was assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group in Bad Tolz, Germany.
In 1974, while assigned to the 9th Aviation Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington as a medical specialist, he was selected to attend the Army physician assistant course at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He served in assignments in that capacity at Fort Ord, California, Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Benning, Georgia.
In 1981 he was selected to attend the Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course and was assigned after graduation as a medevac pilot with the 159th Medical Detachment and then the 236th Medical Detachment, both in Germany. In July, 1985, he was assigned to the 160th, first with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion as a mission pilot and then with the Regiment’s Headquarters Service Company as the Warrant Officer Assessment Officer. CW3 Hansen was killed when his AH-6, #276, crashed in Portland, Tennessee.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Combat Medical Badge, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
He married the former Connie Meinke and had a daughter Tracey and son, Steven.
