CW2 Alvey was born in Morganfield, Kentucky on 1 September, 1956 and spent his childhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served as one of the navigators for operation Honey Badger and received a Chinook transition immediately following. He is remembered as a big, jovial type of guy who was fun to be around.
He was a member of Alpha Company, 159th Aviation Battalion and was conducting over water training operations when his CH-47 Chinook #527 crashed in the Atlantic Ocean, just east of Cape Henry, Virginia on 20 March, 1983.
He was married to Kristy Alvey and had two sons, James and Joseph.
